Interlocken Music Festival Preview
One festival we at Sensible Reason have been keeping a close eye on is the brand new Interlocken Music Festival. Interlocken Music Festival has a smaller selection of artists than many current festivals, but with a special twist. At Interlocken, bands such as The String Cheese Incident will play multiple sets over multiple days. SCI will be performing three sets over two days, Furthur will play four sets over three days,The Black Crowes two sets over two days, and John Fogerty of Widespread Panic will be performing both with as part of Widespread Panic on Sunday and sitting in with Furthur on Saturday. Tickets to the four day festival are on sale for $285, with options including a VIP package at $599, student discounts for those with valid IDs at $180, as well as a Super VIP option, with an exclusive acoustic set by Furthur as well as the fanciest amentias at $999. Interlocken’s inaugural year is planning to attract 30,000 fans to its pristine festival grounds in Arrington, VA from September 5th to September 8th.
Excitingly, Interlocken will allow for plenty of cross pollination between these bands. Expect exclusive collaborations and once of a lifetime sets as these artists share the festival grounds with you for this weekend. Interlocken’s lineup is pristine no matter what day you look, with a clear call for quality over quantity. Thursday starts off with two String Cheese sets, Gov’t Mule, and the Warren Haynes Band. Friday has two sets from Furthur, the sole performance by the Zac Brown Incident, the second SCI set of the weekend, and the venerable Jimmy Cliff. Neil Young joins the festival grounds on Saturday along with Crazy Horse, and other highlights include Furthur, The Black Crowes, and the Punch Brothers. The final day’s festivities are spotlighted by Furthur, Widespread Panic, and a second Black Crowes set.
One of these Furthur sets will be a full performance of the Grateful Dead’s 1970 release Workingman’s Dead, adding to the uniqueness of this festival. Another special treat – this is the first year this land, with its trails originally carved by Jeep as a special event for fans to get the most out of its vehicles, will ever see music fans conversing in its woodsy, winding landscape. Interlocken will be extremely bike friendly for those wishing to save time and energy between their camp and the festival’s two stages.
Preparations at the Oak Ridge Farm are already well underway and many local hotels have already sold out. Interlocken sold its first 5,000 early bird tickets within its first 24 hours of sales, make sure to grab yours before they start running low!
