Electronic music is bigger than ever these days. The genre has seeped into almost every facet of music and is now one of the most popular genres worldwide. But, what does “electronic music” really mean and what is its purpose in people’s lives? One of the biggest names in electronic music, Pete Tong, sought to answer that question 10 years ago when he created the first International Music Summit in Ibiza 10 years ago. He wanted to explore the genre and discuss with others what it meant to them, where it came from, and where it was headed. Since then, the International Music Summit has become a world event and “The Premier Platform for Thought and Leadership in Electronic Music.” The Summit returns May 24-26, 2017 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Ibiza.
In 2007, electronic music was not popular, it seemed at its lowest point since birth. Creators of IMS thought the best way to save the industry was to gather those who are like-minded and create change. Ibiza has always been a hub for the electronic scene, and its summer season is always packed with the best electronic artists. It seemed only natural that this legendary location host the International Music Summit. For 2017, IMS returns to Ibiza at the cusp of the summer season to celebrate its 10th anniversary and continue being the most profound gathering of electric minds.
“IMS Ibiza is a comprehensive three-day event featuring live seminars and debates amongst the leaders of the international music community. Through keynotes, interviews, panels and technology master classes, our industry network comes together for thoughtful discussion about the direction and future of electronic music. The IMS Business Report, which has become the industry’s leading data study, is also presented at IMS Ibiza for a global snapshot of vital statistics about the industry. The event has become a major source of industry deals, press launches and is a talking point for worldwide media. Major brands like Corona, Pioneer, Nokia and Coca-Cola have used IMS as a platform to launch important initiatives in the electronic music space.” – IMS website
Within the Summit the IMS Legends Dinner is a melding of the minds and award ceremony for pioneers of electronic music. Past awards have been given to Nile Rodgers, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong and Carl Cox. To tie it all together, the IMS Grand Finale Festival at Dalt Vila brings the Summit to a musical close. Electronic music has come a long way since IMS began, and there is no doubt that the change inspired by Pete Tong’s curiosity heavily influenced the genre’s exponential growth.
