[Interview] Beardyman – Brit Beatbox Boss Talks Comedy, Penises, and the Future (Hint: the World is Fucked)
This past summer, Sensible Reason was lucky enough to speak with British beatbox sensation Beardyman, when he touched down in Brooklyn for a gig at Output. Though the club is notorious for its “no photography” policy, we were able to capture the interview on tape (after the crowd cleared out), thanks to Andrew Maloney of Genmotion.
The interview covered a range of topics, touching on everything from his earliest musical memory of being fascinated by Lionel Richie’s “Hello” to his favorite wry British comics to creating his own technology to perform his unique sets. There is even an impromptu appearance by opener DJ Shiftee, turntablist champion, in which the two expound on the legality of utilizing the penis as an accessory in international turntable competition.
Check out the interview below, and listen to his recently released EP HERE. As the man says, albeit tongue-in-cheek, “People dance and have a good time and then go back to their lives and they’re not such shitty people…I give the gift of joy.”
