Jesse Marco Brought His Skills to Underground
Fashion and music have had a close relationship for some time. Runway shows and dance music fit flawlessly together, for what better music to strut the catwalk than something with a beat. Jesse Marco has been mixing and scratching for most of his life. Under the wing of DJ AM and Mark Ronson, Jesse Marco had the right mentors for playing the coolest parties out there. His career has taken him from celebrity parties to New York’s Fashion Week and he continues to be a staple of the runway as the resident DJ for designer Alexander Wang. Jesse Marco came through to Chicago’s Underground for a Friday night party to remember.
The night started a little slow, as with most club nights in a big city. The place didn’t start to fill up until around midnight. The club had two rooms, the first with the larger DJ booth and larger than life LED wall behind it. The screen took up the entire back end of the club, making the DJ booth the center of attention. The other room contained low-lit chandeliers and Victorian style décor. Once Jesse Marco took the stage, the club remained mesmerized until bar time. He played every top hit one could think of, from Drake to Rihanna, Beyoncé, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Kanye and more. He added his own flare and made sure to show off his scratching skills along the way.
It was clear that Jesse has learned from the best in the business in the world of mixing. With every spin, he took the crowd’s reaction and fed off of the energy. As some might lose momentum or become tuckered out as the 3 o’clock hour ticked by, Jesse Marco kept everyone dancing and begging for more. Few original tracks came through, but every remix contained a little Jesse Marco flare. He added his own scratches and loops effortlessly as he spun. He looked as though he was having a blast in the booth. The intimate setting of the club allowed a few lucky VIPs to be right by his side as he beamed from ear to ear dropping the coolest beats. The dancefloor of Underground remained packed until the end of the night. Security worked tirelessly to keep people from dancing on the tables and couches. The music was irresistible.
Fashion kept electronic music alive, even through a time when the genre was less popular than its now mainstream status. There is something about dance music that coincides with innovation, art, and creativity. With Jesse being known as a fashion DJ, this holds very true. It must be a rewarding privilege to DJ a fashion show and be able to see the latest trends as they come to fruition. Jesse Marco continues to be at the forefront of this art as well as music. His skills are unparalleled.
