Editorial Intern

Sensible Reason is looking for an intern to work with our editors and contributors 6-12 hours per week (hours are flexible). At the start of the internship, interns will be trained in the “ins and outs” of working with an online blog, specifically, how to edit and post documents with WordPress. WordPress is used by over 16.7% of Alexa Internet‘s “top 1 million” websites and as of August 2011 manages 22% of all new websites meaning it is an invaluable skill to have in the world of journalism. In this initial phase, interns will edit daily posts that have been drafted by our contributors as a way of working on their editing skills as well as learning the intricacies of  how to use WordPress.

Once we feel that the intern is comfortable with using WordPress and we feel confident in their skills, the intern will begin doing weekly “fieldwork” assignments in addition to editorial work. Sensible Reason is a music, arts, and politics blog and therefore we will ask the intern to push themselves to find a new and unique event or topic to cover. Press and photo credentials can be obtained through the blog which will allow the intern to attend gallery openings, concerts and music festivals, shows, sporting events, political forums, panels, etc. Intern will also be trained in interviewing and asked to do at least one interview. Intern will be asked to do a diverse range of fieldwork but will also be able to suggest topics and events of their own choosing.

Application Procedure: Please email Info@SensibleReason.com with a Cover Letter, Resume, and Writing Sample. The writing sample is optional and should be brief (1-2 pages), preferably a review of an interesting topic. Essays are accepted as well. Please title the email “Sensible Reason Editorial Intern” and include where you heard of the position in your email. Please note that this is an unpaid internship.

Social Media Intern

We are looking for an intern to assist with Facebook posts, Twitter posts, blog posts, Instagraming photos, among other tasks, for approximately 6-12 hours per week (hours are flexible). We also are interested in working on new initiatives such as an email newsletter, research on other music blogs, etc. Finally, interns maybe be asked to convert press releases into short blog posts.

Interns must be able to adapt and learn quickly, as the tools and resources used in the blogging and social media world are ever-changing. We are also looking for someone who is able to meet quick deadlines, and has unique interests that they would like to bring to the blog. All work done with the blog (including with all of our editors, contributors, and public relations) is done remotely via WordPress, GMail, Facebook, etc. and therefore it is necessary that the intern has a demonstrated background in social media.

Interns will become verse in: Digital Marketing Techniques, Facebook Analytics, Email Marketing, Social Media Content Creation and Community Building. The fields of Social Media and Digital Marketing are growing at exponential rates and nearly all businesses today are involved in social media or digital marketing, though there is little educational background available in these fields. Having this internship experience on your resume will help you to establish yourself in this fast-paced and exciting field.

Application Procedure: Please email Info@SensibleReason.com with a Cover Letter and Resume. Please title the email “Sensible Reason Social Media Intern” and include where you heard of the position in your email. Please note that this is an unpaid internship.
