Jonny Fritz Is Masterful With ‘Sweet Creep’
Not long ago, Jonny Fritz was featured in a moving and jovial track of the day. With the release of the singer’s album, Sweet Creep, we can guarantee nothing but the best from the man behind “dad country.” Across eleven tracks one will find some of the most upbeat tunes from Fritz in the form of bluegrass and folk, two of my favorite genres.
While the lyricism of “Are You Thirsty” come off as distraught and of despair, the album manages to leave a glimpse of optimism in its soundscape. Strewn across eleven tracks, the blend of bluegrass and folk are prominent and take front and center and draws upon Fritz’s experiences, although one particular track — and my personal favorite — is the jamboree that takes place in “Chilidog Morning” where the singer found himself in an impromptu songwriting session with a friend’s four year old daughter. It is delightfully amusing and reigns as a favorite and truly made me appreciate this man’s spirit. Though, not every song will feature a humorous story — some speak of Fritz’s contentment with his shortcomings, something not every artist can do.
Catch Jonny on tour next week!
