Loci Records Label Showcase
“Loci Records is a meeting place, a point of convergence for myself and others who share a similar musical vision. Loci is the plural of locus, which is a focus point. It’s a collection of points, the same way each artist on the label is a point in the musical universe. Loci is the meeting point, a platform where we can share our art collectively, and we’d like for this tour to be another series of points where we share this music with you in a live setting.”
Since arriving on the scene with a self-released album in 2006, Emancipator has captivated audiences around the globe with a beautiful blend of symphonic and electronic elements. Doug Appling, based out of Portland, produces music that activates an intimate part of the listener’s soul. Commonly touring with Ilya Goldberg and an ensemble, attending an Emancipator concert is like traveling through the depths of one’s soul to realize the ways in which music can help heal internal afflictions. There’s undoubtedly a soothing quality in Emancipator’s music with an overwhelming sense of connection and balance. From there, the music features “etheric melodies, immaculately smooth samples, and addictive drum beats” to ensure a captivated audience.
Lapa, aka Ilya Goldberg, frequently tours with Emancipator and has been featured on numerous tracks with his impeccable skills on the violin. Producing music in a similar style, Lapa accentuates the beauty and minimalism of the downtempo genre. Being trained on classical violin at an early age has given Lapa the ability to interweave symphonic elements into the electronic genre in a way that transports the listener from a classical realm into a space of free musical expression. These dream-like musical planes are explored in Lapa’s debut album Meeting of the Waters. This album serves as an immersive vehicle through worldly sounds that sends the listener to faraway places with a sense of connection to the unknown.
Edamame is a master of beats that is heavily influenced by nature. From serene landscapes on his album covers to tracks that incite the feeling of being outdoors, Edamame’s music presents an atmosphere of our truest self. On his tenth album, Ochre, Edamame features “lo-fi atmospherics, silky smooth beats, and singing synths” that transform the album into an auditory trip around the world.
Hailing from Vancouver, Tor creates new sonic palattes with “rhymthic bell patterns, analog synths, warm bass lines, and chopped vocals.” Tor’s sophomore album, Blue Book, recalls a raw creative time in his life when Tor was searching for a purpose. This reconnection to his true essence serves as a sound board for the human experience. It is only through exploration of the self that one is able to gain true happiness.
