Lotus Performs at The Space at Westbury
This past Saturday, January 25, 2014, Lotus performed at the new Long Island venue, The Space at Westbury. As soon as you enter the venue, you are hit with the real beauty of the venue. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you are literally welcomed by a greeter directing you to coat check. All of the staff is incredibly friendly. You walk into the concert hall and greeted by chandeliers, an open floor, and the stage. To your back is stadium seating, which is perfect for when you want to relax with friends between sets.
The lighting for Lotus was, as expected, awesome. Behind the 5 man band were illuminated pillars that almost looked like florescent rock. The lighting was amazing without being overwhelming; very tasteful and artistic.
The setlist wowed fans with some great resurrections, including “Mikesnack,” closing out the first set with “Suitcases,” “The Surf,” and more. The entire two sets were a great example of Lotus’ jamtronica repertoire. Lotus has been known to perform across many genres, including dubstep and, with the release of their latest album Monks, hiphop. However, this show was strictly jamtronica and the crowd loved it. For both long-time fans and first-timers, this was a great example of the mastery and artistry of music that Lotus has. I met several concert goers who had never even heard of Lotus beforehand but were invited to go by some friends, and across the board they all loved the show. Likewise, after the show, long-time fans discussed which song they hadn’t heard in ages and were glad to hear brought back. If you’re a fan and missed this show, check out the setlist below– you will be crying.
For Long Islanders, the opportunity to hear the kind of music that The Space at Westbury brings in right her on the island is a rarity. Many fans commented that The Space is Long Island’s new version of The Westcott in Syracuse and they were eager to return for some of the other great upcoming shows, including Shpongle, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Galactic, Trombone Shorty, and more.
