Mamby on the Beach TOTD: Small Black – “Boys Life”

Mamby on the Beach is one of the most unique music festivals born in the Chicago area for two years running. With a cooler-than-ice lineup that screams “let’s chill out and groove,” the fest is bound to make some memories while dancing at Oakwood Beach in Chicago. VIP packages even let you take a dip in Lake Michigan. Today’s track of the day comes from one of our favorite Mamby artists, Small Black. Hailing from their latest EP, Best Blues, today’s TOTD is “Boys Life.”
Brooklyn-based Small Black carries a coastal sound with an essence from the other side of the country. But, these guys add a hint of some big city vibes to end with a feel that proves they still have NYC influences. “Boys Life” opens with a catchy synth piano-based tune that holds a bouncing beat, making you sway as you listen. Singer Josh Kolenik enters with his soothing and seamless voice. The song picks up to showcase the group’s ability to master a theme of “Acousmatic Tape Music Concrete.” The drums pick up through the track to end in a climax of energy impossible to sit still through. As the track comes to a close, you’re left reminiscing about a lost love that you no longer speak to as Kolneik repeats the last lyric, “pictures of you…”
We can’t wait to hear this new track and everything else Small Black has to offer at this year’s Mamby on the Beach on fourth of July weekend July 2nd and 3rd. Snag your tickets here and check out the lineup below.
