Track of the Day: Marshall McGee – “Ready For It (ft. IDA HAWK)”
Marshall McGee first caught our ears last year when his track “Freelancer” blew up thanks to praise from Gramatik during his AMA on Reddit. Gramatik has followed through with his interest and has featured Marshall on the new Lowtemp compilation “Lowtemporary Vol. 1“.
In addition, both Griz and Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic praised Marshall in an interview with Casulin last year. Both electro-soul stars seem convinced that Marshall and his peers who are also creating electronic, funky jams will soon see more and more success. This exposure coupled with being featured on THUMP might be enough to kickstart this talented 19 year old producer’s musical career.
“Ready For It” starts with the kind of bluesy guitar riff that instantly ingrains itself into your mind for days. Great vocals by Ida Hawk help ignite this track into an explosive exercise in funk and electro soul. Marshall McGee’s guitar instrumentals coupled with his production expertise makes his inherent talent undeniable. This kid has more varied skills than some of the most prolific producers out there right now, and he deserves all the praise he will get. Keep your eyes out for the next Marshall McGee live performance, coming to a city near you sometime in the future.
If you missed it, Marshall also released his album Order of Operations, which you can listen to and download for free.
