INPUT Brings the Vibes Tonight With: Mr. Carmack, Djemba Djemba and Noah Breakfast! – August 7
Output’s long running Thursday night dance party, aptly called INPUT, brings blissed-out bass music tonight, August 7th, with a genre melding lineup containing sets from Mr. Carmack, Djemba Djemba, and Noah Breakfast. The night will be heavy with big boomy trap music, but please don’t think that’s all these great artists have to offer. These three craft their bass music with subtly and precision, and when those kicks and snares come rolling through, they cut with a surgeon’s scalpel. I’ve already had the extreme pleasure of catching Carmack and Djemba sets in person, and I can’t recommend their work enough. Noah Breakfast is like putting extra frosting on an already awesome ice cream cake!
Philadelphia native Noah Breakfast might be playing the earliest of these three tonight, but his opening set is unmissable for those in the know. He has an incredible knack for putting a trap spin on indie rock and pop tracks, bringing in boomy kicks and clattering snares to breathe new life into standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus styles of music. His remix of Passion Pit’s “Constant Conversations” is a real standout!
Djemba Djemba & Mr. Carmack tonight begin Part II of their Memory Loss tour, with future stops in Chicago, Baltimore, Denver, and more! Tonight at Output I can’t wait to hear Djemba on the decks! As a member of Diplo’s Mad Decent family, you are assured that Djemba’s tunes are going to come at you hard, but with some unique style that made them stand out and catch Diplo’s attention. Working out of LA, Djemba Djemba isn’t afraid to get a little weird with his trap, and some of his songs sound almost juke-ish as that faster, hardcore speed gets thrown into the mix. For those who think trap can be a little plodding, this isn’t the case here! Give a listen to the track I’ve linked above this paragraph to see how Djemba Djemba will make you flail around happily tonight! I hope we see some weird, fun jams like this in his set!
Mr. Carmack is one of the rare unsigned producers making his wives rise higher and higher while still primarily supporting himself online through social media and Bandcamp. His latest album, Dimebag, was released on January 1st, New Years Day, a bold move where he got to splash some water around during a week when all the rest of the music industry is sleeping. His music is just as creative. At times he crafts spacey hip hop beats that give the release some air and let you chill out and relax. There are lyrics but in EDM fashion, they are primarily broken up and stuttered, where the repetition sets a mood rather than tells a story. At times though, the harder, faster side of trap comes in, and Mr. Carmack stands out as one of the best in the game at throwing down some bass. Despite having what I assume to be a super chill view on life thanks to his Hawaiian upbringing, his work is not to be slept on… especially his remixes for Ta-Ku, Jacuzzi, ESTA, Kayembe, and more that assure his blend of hip-hop and electronic can not be missed!
So, what would I like to see tonight at INPUT? More bodies on the dance floor before midnight, please! Noah Breakfast is quite talented and will be working hard to set the mood, and club nights are also more fun when you are there to experience the entire journey start to finish. So start your night a little early, get a little loose, and make your way over to Output to catch the opening set’s beats. You won’t regret it! A little birdie told me that there is still time to get a nicely reduced entry if you RSVP! Plus, I’ve heard that local DJ Jason Scott of Betteryet will be playing! These early sets are a perfect time to get to know people and craft a memorable night!
For those of you who are relentlessly late and know you won’t be able to make the midnight cutoff, grab your reduced price tickets at Ticketfly!
