Mr. Carmack & DJEMBA DJEMBA Join Forces for The Memory Loss Tour.
There are very few artists who have piqued my interest and curiosity as much as the dynamic underground duo of Mr. Carmack and DJEMBA DJEMBA. For years these two talented producers have been releasing innovative, genre-defying tunes and have some of the most high profile names in dance music taking notice. Mr. Carmack and DJEMBA DJEMBA are two artists who have sacrificed the spotlight of celebrity in order to create progressive music that is both uncompromising and incredibly unique. Slowly but surely the two have amassed a fierce cult following of musically discerning supporters. Fresh off of their sweltering shows down in Miami for WMC 2014, DJEMBA DJEMBA and Mr. Carmack will be embarking on a seven city North American run entitled the Memory Loss Tour. On April 18th these two will be hitting Wallplay in New York City for what is sure to be a stellar night full of awesome performances and surprises.
Mr. Carmack is poised to have a impressive 2014. Last year he released his Bang Vol. 3 and Life/Death EPs to huge success claiming the number one album spot consecutively on Bandcamp. With some key releases on labels like Mad Decent, Jeffree’s imprint, Soulection and Team Supreme, Mr. Carmack’s music has permeated throughout the dance music scene and has gained him global recognition. The Honolulu based producer has an incredibly captivating style that combines the visceral grit of classic hip hop beats with the futuristic nuances of electronic music. Mr. Carmack has the uncanny ability to leave you baffled by his sonic complexity but entranced by his hypnotic arrangement. In my opinion, his sound exists somewhere between the brash booty shaking qualities of Mad Decent label head Diplo and the smooth polished demeanor of The Neptunes. High praise I know, but check out some of his bangers on Soundcloud and then tell me how you feel.
DJEMBA DJEMBA is no rookie in the game either. Before he got started crafting heavy hitting bass drenched beats, DJEMBA DJEMBA was known as St. Andrew and you can still find some vestiges of this retired moniker on myspace. DJEMBA has an all encompassing style which allows him to run the musical gamut from downtempo chill tunes to outright trap infused dance floor wreckers. DJEMBA has also proven himself as an extremely skilled remixer. He has created some of the hottest track face lifts I’ve ever heard by finding a way to impose his unique style on songs without adulterating their essence. Be sure to check out his SoundCloud page. It’s a fantastic resource for finding fresh new music from all across the globe.
Next Friday’s show at Wallplay is going to be a big one with extra support coming from Go Yama, Nire, Jason Scott and a few more special guests yet to be named. Wallplay is an exquisite, fully air conditioned two floor venue with private roof access which usually serves as an art gallery. This stop on the Memory Loss Tour will be presented by Betteryet Anavy & Thousand Fathoms and will feature FREE BEER all night from Singha Beer and FREE PIZZA from Rizzo’s Pizza of the LES. Great music, free food and drinks, what else do you want? Don’t miss out on what is sure to be a party for the record books and grab your tickets here while you still can!
