Mysteryland debuts in the U.S. to remind us; “Today is a Gift”
Mysteryland the longest running series of Electronic Dance Music festivals is hitting the United States for the first time on Memorial Day Weekend, May 23rd – 26th. The festival is being held in Bethel Woods , New York; the site of the famous 1969 Woodstock. With an amazing lineup of some of the Worlds Best Dj’s and electronic music producers coupled with out of this world stage production, The folks over at Mysteryland are looking to make a great first impression and drive home their motto that “Today is a Gift”
The Festival began in the Netherlands back in 1993. ID&T are a dutch entertainment and media enterprise that are responsible for conceptualizing and bringing this beast to life. Mysteryland has since toured multiple locales overseas including Rotterdam, Holland, Amsterdam, Chile and is now coming to New York.
Bethel Woods, New York, famous for the counter cultural event Woodstock ’69. This event was a pivotal point for the music of the 60’s and music in general. An Aquarian Exposition offering 3 Days of Peace & Music, Woodstock became an iconic festival to have seen the likes of The Grateful Dead, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin. Kaskade, a rising Dj in the EDM world has been quoted saying “The parallels between where we are now and what was happening back in the late 60’s can’t be ignored.” What better site to help usher in the next round of counter culture music and artists than a place that is iconic for doing just that.
Mysteryland is known for implementing some of the most intricate and elaborate stage productions to date. In fact I am not sure I even know what to expect and I have witnessed multitudes of different festival stages. Mixing surrealism, psychedelic themes, and imagery that plays on your subconscious I have a feeling the attendees of this festival are going to have a lot to talk about on the car ride home.
This festival is much more than having a good time and dancing though, with community building programs like the Sustainable Design Challenge (Vote for contestants here) and heavy emphasis on art installations, Mysteryland wants to tap into the creative minds of the youth and help develop a better culture and community by creating a sustainable, functional art installation based on the theme and motto: “Today is a Gift”
With all these factors in play, and a lineup like this…….
I’m sure this is the one festival this summer that you can not go without attending!
