New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Announces Massive 2016 Lineup
If you have ever attended the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, you probably do not even need to hear the lineup announcement to know where you will be the last weekend of April or the first weekend of May. That’s because you know that each year, at the end of April, the city of New Orleans turns into the biggest, most joyful party of the year, celebrating all things jazz and New Orleans culture. New Orleans’ iconic music festival, which spans seven days over two weeks, draws crowds from around the world. During the day, music fans wander from music tents featuring the best of the best in jazz, gospel, folk, and blues, to the main stage for big name acts which have included the likes of Elton John, The Who, Phish, Lady Gaga and everyone in between in past years. After the fairgrounds’ gates close, musicians in town for the festivities flood the city’s venues for late-night revelry, where you never know who will pop in to jam, or just hang out and party.
That being said, if you were ever on the fence about making the trip to the Big Easy, this year’s epic line-up might be just the thing to put you over the edge. In its 47th year, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has put together a huge lineup of local New Orleans favorites and diverse national talent that goes deep. This year’s headliners include the one and only Stevie Wonder, rockers Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers, music legends including Neil Young, Paul Simon and Van Morrison, jazz giants Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, Chris Botti, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, New Orleans staples Trombone Shorty, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Galactic, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and the list goes on and on…and on and on. The hardest part is going to be trying to decide which weekend to be there!
Weekend one, April 22nd-24th will feature headliners Steely Dan, Gov’t Mule, Grace Potter, and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Weekend two, April 28th-May 1st will bring out Tedeschi Trucks Band, Stevie Wonder, Snarky Puppy, Punch Brothers and many many more.
