Okeechobee Music Festival: A Taste of Bonnaroo in The Sunshine State
There’s been quite a buzz circulating with the announcement of an already highly-anticipated 3-day music, arts, and camping event, Okeechobee, fittingly taking place in Okeechobee, FL, from March 4th through the 6th of 2016. A lush, green property expanding over 800 acres in the heart of Florida will become a home-away-from-home to festival patrons over the three-day weekend, and will be decked out with 5 different stages that will host 80+ bands and DJs.
A brand spankin’ new music festival is always something that we have high hopes for; yet that hope can be tampered with by the thought that plagues our minds when we worry, “who’s running this thing, do they know what they’re doing? have they done this before?”, or “how do I know this isn’t going to be one giant fail of a festival?”, which has happened to plenty of first-time festivals. Luckily for Okeechobee, the musical talent and productions are coming from the masterminds at Soundslinger, LLC, who curated the Bonnaroo SuperJam, an artist-collaboration of epic proportions, amongst a plethora of other successful musical endeavors within the festival scene. With that being said, you can expect rare, maybe even once-in-a-lifetime collabs with artists from multiple genres, integrating their sounds and styles for an incredibly unique festival experience, which isn’t something you get the chance to witness everyday.
As far as what kind of music you can expect to enjoy at this event is concerned, Okeechobee will offer a varied range of artists and bands playing anything from electronic music to rock, indie, folk, and alternative, similar to the styles of music offered by some of the largest and most successful events out there, i.e Bonnaroo, Coachella. The CEO of Soundslinger, Steve Sybesma, has leaked that they have signed major headliners and an impressive supporting lineup, but the lineup remains confidential until mid-October. Dusk-till-dawn electronic music stage parties and extracurricular activities such as yoga and flow arts classes are also something patrons can look forward to.
Advance tickets will go on sale when the lineup is announced this month, which can be found on the Okeechobee site. For more information and updates regarding the festival, keep up with the Facebook page.
