Outside Lands: The Ultimate SF Festival
San Francisco’s Outside Lands unveils its richest roster yet for the August 2016 edition of the beloved music festival. Over seventy-five artists will perform from August 5-7, on stages distributed throughout Golden Gate Park. Now in its eighth year, Outside Lands promises to be one of the most crowd-pleasing festivals of the summer, with acts ranging from throwbacks including Duran Duran and Lionel Richie, to indie darlings Lana Del Rey and Sufjan Stevens. For those who prefer their beats electronic, L.A. legend TOKiMONSTA and trop-house star Thomas Jack will be throwing down, while on the hip-hop and R&B side of things Chance the Rapper and Miguel will be sure to draw huge crowds.
Much of the appeal of Outside Lands is that it is so true to Bay Area culture. Some see O.L. as a music festival, while to others it’s more about culinary exploration. Befitting any SF gathering, there will be entire environments devoted to its best-known delights: wine, beer, chocolate, and cheese. Experienced foodies know to come hungry, as there will be nearly 80 vendors in attendance, and over 120 types of wine will be paired with everything from the latest interpretation of a donut to fusion-y food truck fare. Craft ale connoisseurs should make their way to beer lands, where over 25 breweries will represent one of the country’s most loved beer regions. Expect veterans such as Sierra Nevada and Anchor pouring alongside a bevy of up-and-comers.
Those eager to drink up the whole Outside Lands experience will also have access to everything from art to activism in the festival’s many environments. Even without an event, Golden Gate Park is itself one of San Francisco’s best-loved attractions. Out-of-towners can be sure to make the most of their SF festival weekend with strolls through the Japanese Tea Garden, the AIDS Memorial Grove, and more — paired with an IPA, of course.
