Phases of the Moon Music Festival 2014
Phases of the Moon Music Festival seems to be Interlocken’s new younger sibling. The four day music festival in its inaugural year will be held on September 11-14th, the weekend after Lock’n, in 3,000 acre Kennekuk County Park in south central Illinois.
Musically, this festival reflects Lock’n — and for good reason. Despite all of the grassroots, organic jam bands that are on the ticket this year, there remains a mystery on the lineup. Lunar Landing Conspiracy is a musical UFO, presumably it may be comprised of the best the jam industry has to offer, but it’s hard to say that without seeing Phil Lesh and Friends, Mickey Hart Band, or Bob Weir and Ratdog on there as well.
The location was strategically chosen to help connect as many people as possible in an epicenter of midwest cities. It is 2.5 hours from Chicago, 1.5 from Indianapolis, 3.5 from St. Louis, and less than one from Champaign and Peoria, making it an easy trip from any one of these big cities to take part in what looks to be a promising new festival.
As usual, music will not be the only attraction for those attending the festival. Phases plans on running an organic farmers market, a craft beer garden, and a “kids area” that is safe and quiet with activities for both the parents and the children. There is a “safe area” for adults to go to, as well — the Sanctuary will be a place of peace for the mind, body, and soul, complete with meditation and yoga classes; where adult festival attendees can take a break from the music and return to a state of tranquility.
