Hailing from Burlington, Vermont, the band’s unique sound developed while playing to ardent fans in local clubs. Over the past several years, RAQ has taken the stage at festivals such as Bonnaroo, High Sierra Music Festival, Langerado, Berkshire Mountain Music Festival, Summer Camp, Gathering of the Vibes, Adirondack Music Festival, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Camp Bisco and aboard the floating festival, Jam Cruise.
One of the reasons behind RAQ’s highly successful tour past is the fact that their compositions are grounded in solid song structures, but still malleable enough to go in a bunch of different directions in the live setting. Their extensive repertoire of original compositions and creative covers give the band the freedom to create a unique set list for every show, so who knows what you’ll see at this one? FiKus is a synthesis of analog and digital sounds that combines progressive melodies with infectious grooves, electronic beats, and edgy vocals to form their own signature style of music, which they refer to as “Electro Funk-Rock.” With two self-released EPs under their belt (Mover Shaker and Plus+), FiKus, made up of Steve Malone, Travis Poparoski, Jon Schmarak, Pete Kozak, and Kito Bovenschulte, is currently planning the release of their debut full length album sometime in 2013.
It is the fusion of each of the members’ influences and the collaborative song-writing process that creates such an interesting sound, but it is the sheer passion and enjoyment from the music itself that creates the unforgettable experience of the live show. Within the past three years, FiKus has used the momentum of the live performances to turn themselves into one of the most exciting up and coming bands on the scene, taking their show all along the East Coast and growing exponentially.
Make sure to keep your ear to the ground and watch out for FiKus as they continue to make moves! Again, buy tickets here, and watch these videos of their song “Weezy” and of their entire set in Providence last Friday:
