Journey Beyond: Shambhala’s Tradition & A New Chapter Begins At The Oregon Eclipse
Festival season is just about underway. Now that we are about halfway through the month of May, it’s almost impossible to think of anything else besides this year’s upcoming festivals. While there are definitely a slew of dope events all over the country and the world, I am most looking forward to heading to the Northwest for Shambhala Music Festival‘s 20th anniversary and the first every Global Eclipse Gathering. From August 11-13 Shambhala will celebrate 20 years of music festival innovation in the gorgeous Kootenay Mountains. Then a mere four days later the Global Eclipse Gathering will bring together an incredible collective of international festival organizers for a six-day spectacle at the Big Summit Prairie in Oregon. The physical and temporal proximity of these two events signifies a momentous occasion in the world of electronic music and festival culture. In this series, Journey Beyond, I want to get you ready for this incredible adventure.
There are clearly some key similarities between these two events, like notable crossover artists such as The Librarian, Clozee, Truth, J. Phlip, The Polish Ambassador, Beats Antique and Justin Martin. However, these two highly anticipated events have two very different approaches. On one hand, you have Shambhala a festival firmly on the cutting edge of innovation and known for its unique sense of permanence and tradition. On the other, you have the Global Eclipse Gathering, an event which will celebrate a rare natural phenomenon and bring together contributors from all around the globe.
While Shambhala will be celebrating decades of a tight-knit and established community, the Global Eclipse Gathering will celebrate the formation of a newborn family. The contrast between these two events is both invigorating and inspiring. While travesties like the now infamous Fyre Festival highlight the money-grabbing and vapid elements of the festival scene, gatherings like Global Eclipse and Shambhala truly champion the beliefs of community, collaboration, and innovation.
In a recent video from The Pride, the team that curates the Living Room stage at Shambhala, we can take an in-depth look into the incredible passion and hard work that takes place at the Salmo River Ranch. Likewise, Global Eclipse is proving it’s innovative vision with unique features like Elemental Alchemy, a 5-day immersive available in several different subjects before the actual event. These two festivals are dead set on creating an experience that will transform you for the better but are going about it in very different ways.
This August will mark the beginning of a once in a lifetime adventure. Come along on this incredible journey beyond and experience these two wondrous and unique events for yourself.
