Sparkee Drops Effortlessly Enjoyable Discovery EP Via Westwood
Some of the dopest electronic music we’ve got our hands on lately is being imported from western Canada. Most notably, Vancouver is producing a slew of head-turning artists that have really caught our attention. One such up-and-comer who we can’t get enough of is nu-disco and electro-funk maven Sparkee. Drawing on inspiration from the likes of Nile Rodgers, Daft Punk, Justice, and Haywyre, Sparkee has concocted a style that is all at once cutting edge but delightfully nostalgic. His newest Discovery EP recently dropped via Vancouver-based label Westwood Recordings.
Discovery is an infectiously groovy four-track offering that was made to perfectly suit the mellow vibes of summer. This EP is fresh, innovative, and effortlessly enjoyable. While listening to the release it quickly becomes apparent that Sparkee is a skilled and forward-thinking producer. What struck us most about the release was the polished sonic approach to each track. It’s clear that Sparkee is developing a unique skill set and ability to maintain his own musical lane, combining elements from chill hip hop to jazz to electro.
“Want Your Love” is a funky, old school pop that kicks the EP off with tantalizing energy. Featuring effervescent vocals and stunning synths, news fans get a taste of what this artist is all about. Next, the lead single off of the EP is a sun-drenched disco track entitled “The Kids” featuring LIINKS. Sparkee enlists the skills of Canadian rap legend Def3 on the hip-hop infused track “Feelin’ Right.” “Home” closes out the EP with a jazzy, chillwave vibe featuring guitar riffs and an easy beat.
