Spontaneity and Symbiosis
Spontaneity and Symbiosis go hand in hand. In 2013 at Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale, California, the festival’s home again in 2015, many unplanned, unexpected, yet serendipitous moments arose. While rain, thunder, and lightning are not typically a festival attendant’s dream weather conditions, the short-lived storm created an extra-magical atmosphere that had people dancing in the rain, watching the sky as it radiated beautiful colors, and briefly relaxing in their tents. The rain did alter the workshop and music schedules slightly, but everyone took the rain as a blessing and continued to do their thing whether it was planned or not.
If dancing in the rain doesn’t sound that fun, try hopping on an art car that is rolling by camp. Multiple creations thumped by my camp in 2013 and who doesn’t dawn a smile seeing awesomely dressed festival friends dancing on a crazy looking car as it drives by? Symbiosis hosts lots of crazy, cool art, and some of it can even be seen at the Burn. If you’re skipping or missing the dusty Playa this year, know that you can interact with art seen in BRC. No one can deny that being pulled on an art car as you’re innocently walking by isn’t one of the most fun things that can happen at a festival.
Also, if you hate feeling hot and sweaty after you’ve just built and decorated your festival home for the next few days, do not fear, Symbiosis is on a reservoir which means there is every chance to take a dip. Better yet, take the opportunity to grab a floatie, float on the water, and float on over to your favorite stage while a favorite artist throws down some swoon-worthy tunes. Nothing is quite as sweet as effortlessly drifting your way to a stage and having an impromptu party on the reservoir with your friends.
The Super Early Bird ticket tier has ended, and ticket prices are currently at $240 for the upcoming September festival. Doesn’t sound like you can swing buying a pass at the moment? Check out the payment plan option! The payment plan lets you score tickets for four easy payments of $67 per payment, which is completely doable and helps those who are on a budget. Don’t think about this one, Symbiosis Gathering is going to be a huge highlight of the festival season, and you’ll be sad if you miss out on their 10 year anniversary. See you in Oakdale!
