SR Track of the Day: Pinwheeling – Digital Tape Machine
Digital Tape Machine is back with their EP Omens. How would I describe this 7-piece collective of virtuosic futurists? Fleeting glimpses into the unknown, spiritual technological revelations, a 4th dimensional post-orchestra endowed with the sacred responsibility of presenting to the world their theory of the musical human experience: a unification of the past, present and future.
With great power comes great responsibility, and this impressive array of musicians have answered the call. Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee), Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee), Joe Hettinga, Bryan Doherty, David Arredondo, Marcus Rezak, Dan Rucinski each bring their essential talents to the fusion of digital and analog musical performance. If you or someone you know is under the common misconception or misunderstanding that electronic music is a simple and trivial cop out on the real tradition of live music, bring them to a DTM show. But be careful – you may shatter their subjective reality a little too hard.
Although each track on this EP is amazingly crafted and a must-hear, check out the dynamic “Pinwheeling,” for an especially comprehensive journey into modern musical-technological possibility. The festival circuit has embraced DTM’s presence for years, and their momentum is growing, catch them at Summer Camp Music Festival this Memorial Day Weekend at the pre-party on Thursday (5/22).
