SR Track of the Day: Take It To The Floor (Remix) – Cosby Sweater
Cosby Sweater has been carving out a unique spot for themselves in the jamtronica scene for a few years, and their success continues to grow exponentially. The versatile trio is comprised of David Embry on production and vocals, Nicholas Gerlach on tenor saxophone and EWI and Richard “Sleepy” Floyd on drums. Playing off each others’ vibrant talents, the trio lays down tight electronic grooves with colorful funk and catchy melodies streaming from the keys and that sax/EWI that has become somewhat iconic for the group. Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s McGee also frequently lends his keyboard wizardry during live shows, further establishing Cosby Sweater’s connection to both live and electronic music. Whether it’s mashing up on Lorde with Zion I or cultivating an identifiable live show at festivals and dance floors all over the country, Cosby Sweater has got it going on right now.
In celebration of the start of their tour with Break Science, Cosby Sweater has dropped an addictive remix of Break Science’s “Take It To The Floor” which originally featured Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic on sax (check our Break Science interview if you missed it). Cosby Sweater shows off their electronic and instrumental versatility, injecting glitchy phrases and conjuring sexy sax battles. The Cosby Sweater sound identity is clearly becoming more defined and it will be very exciting to see what the future holds for this promising trio. You can download this track for free below, plus both of their albums here; plus their SoundCloud is filled with delicious surprises.
Cosby Sweater will also appear at Tribal Connection, Summer Camp Music Festival, and Groove Music and Arts Festival this summer as well as on many more dates with Break Science. Buy tickets here.
