Summer Camp Festival 2016: Thinking Outside of the Box
It’s no secret that festival season is settling in, and lineups are dropping left and right for events all across the states and internationally; some of which are great, some not-so-great. With so many festies to choose from, it’s crucial to pick and choose the most appealing lineups, ones that offer you some of your favorite artists but also make you step outside of your comfort zone and try something new.
Going strong for 15 years, Summer Camp Music Festival is continuing their annual weekend-long rager for the 16th round this Memorial Day Weekend at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL. Scamp has once again curated a banging lineup that has something for everyone to love with a broad range of live bands, DJs, and artist collaborations that suit every attendee’s need. Festival patrons will enjoy three whole days of both moe. and Umphrey’s McGee, as well as headlining sets from STS9, The Roots, Thievery Corporation and Excision. Also headlining the festival will be Big Grizmatik (Big Gigantic + GRiZ + Gramatik) and Mudcrutch (Mike Campbell, Tom Leadon, Randall Marsh, Tom Petty, Benmont Tench) for some unforgettably unique performances executed by music legends and top dogs in the EDM world alike. Supporting talent is too stacked to name, but a few include Lettuce, Sam Feldt, NGHTMRE, Yonder Mountain String Band, Snails, and more. Each year since its very first iteration in 2001, Scamp has been growing their reputation as an ever-diversifying and expanding project. Starting off small and dominantly jam-influenced, the lineups have evolved into a well-balanced blend of live bands and DJs/Producers. For the first 8 years or so, Summer Camp’s lineup offered little to no EDM artists, and if there were they certainly weren’t headlining. Circa 2008/2009, a pivotal moment for Summer Camp as a festival occurred. Names such as electronic mash-up master Girl Talk and electronica jam-band STS9 began appearing on lineups during this time and were soon joined by names such as Bassnectar, Eoto, Pretty Lights, Skrillex and more over the forthcoming years.
“Summer Camp Music Festival has transformed the grounds of Three Sisters Park annually, welcoming in thousands of fans to enjoy the ever-growing list of musical talent. Hosting just 15 bands on two stages during its first year, Summer Camp has grown to accommodate over 100 artists on seven stages throughout Memorial Day weekend.”
Although Summer Camp has progressed and changed over the years, one thing has remained constant within their lineups: moe. Having headlined the festival for what will be 16 consecutive years, moe. has undeniably remained the most consistent staple within Scamp’s reputation since it’s inaugural year in 2001.
