The Revivalists Hit BK Bowl 3/28!
Nothing in the music world excites me quite like seeing one of my favorite NOLA bands make it big. When Galactic blew up, I felt like such a proud mama, having watched them rapidly expand their fan base during my four years in the Dirty South. Now that The Revivalists are gaining national recognition on major festival lineups across the country, I feel a similar maternal pride, and know they will continue on their current track towards stardom. Those of us in NY have the opportunity to catch them at Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday, March 28, and any fans of NOLA funk, or just a general good time, had better not miss out!
The star of The Revivalists is undoubtedly lead singer David Shaw, with his unique soulful voice and energetic stage presence. Shaw often performs with other NOLA staples and is featured on the popular Galactic track, “Hey Na Na”–I have had the opportunity to see him perform this live with Galactic several times and he adds such a special flavor to the mix. Constantly bouncing around the stage and even getting down into the crowd, Shaw’s performances are anything but tame! With band members Zach Feinberg on guitar, Ed Williams on pedal steel guitar, Rob Ingraham on saxophone, George Gekas on bass, Andrew Campanelli on drums and Michael Girardot on keys and trumpet, the band creates a totally unique sound that blends classic rock with NOLA funk and tops it off with beautiful, deep lyrics. These guys are a special bunch and definitely going places.
As if this isn’t enough, the beautiful and talented Alecia Chakour will be opening that evening. I caught Alecia recently at the Bowl during Bowlive and her powerful voice absolutely brings down the house. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for a collaboration or two, the magnitude of which I can’t even imagine! What a power couple that would be.
Be sure to catch The Revivalists at Brooklyn Bowl on 3/28. It’s going to be a funky time that you don’t want to miss! Here’s a vid from the last time they threw down at Brooklyn Bowl, along with Warren Haynes:
