Track of the Day – Manatee Commune “Famous” Feat. Cassandra Violet
Art, fame, and envy often dance with each other in a twisted triangle, leading to the idea that the grass is always greener on the other side. The desire to be famous has crossed many minds, whether the thought is fleeting or obsessive. Today’s Track of the Day is an ode to the desire to be the greatest from Manatee Commune with vocals from Cassandra Violet. This track, titled “Famous,” invites the listener into a childhood daydream. Catchy and complete, “Famous” is an earworm bound to be hated for being the greatest.
“I wanted to capture that feeling every kid has when they are alone, rocking out to their favorite song, fantasizing about becoming rockstars or celebrities. To illustrate that titillating feeling when not only have you made it to the top but are also envied by every person you’ve known since childhood. And how that ‘feeling’ is misunderstood and really pans out if/when you actually achieve (any modicum) of success.” – Manatee Commune
The warmth of “Famous” comes through immediately. The track starts out with a dreamy synth arpeggio, ascending and descending the listener into a calm state. Soon the beat enters and Cassandra Violet’s angelic vocals bring the track to life. “I want to be famous, I want to be hated, for being the greatest. I wanna be, wanna be, wanna be…” The track tells the story of someone finally ready to break out of their shell and be someone recognized amongst “so many faces.” The beauty of the track emanates from start to finish. The listener is uplifted, motivated, yet somehow slightly heartbroken at the same time. Being “the greatest” is a fleeting and subjective term that no one can truly accomplish, yet the climb to the top is a beautiful journey, much like “Famous.” The track speaks to the listener and emits confidence and beauty in full form.
