TOTD: Milla Jovovich – “Electric Sky”
Milla Jovovich can do it all! She can act, she can model, and she can sing! Not only can she kick my ass, but she can sing me to sleep as she blows my brains out (I’m excited for the final Resident Evil film). “Electric Sky” is one of my favorite electropop moments from yesteryear. It differs from The Divine Comedy, but maintains that alternative sound only she could produce, albeit in an electronic moment. The most important aspect of the song, at least for me, is the build-up you feel. It’s a powerful, passionate display of sonic bliss. It’s as if you’ve hit the love jackpot and you’re taking your winnings and displaying them across town for all the world to see.
The video accompanying for Milla’s song is colorful and artistic, bizarre at best, and I can honestly say I love it. The closeups, the special effects, the makeup echo an experimental film in the making. Despite saying there was an EP coming in August of 2012, “Electric Sky” was the only material to unveil that year. A year or so later, ass-kicking Alice premiered another experimental song, “Let You Go.” But all is not lost for the multi-talented Ukrainian songstress, Milla provides her own material on her website for free. The demos are equally beautiful in their raw sound, and often contain wisdom and musings in the lyrical content. Each song is poetic and alludes to life experiences, making it even more surreal.
