TOTD: NERVO, Kylie Minogue, Jake Shears & Nile Rodgers – “The Other Boys”
Many moons ago we announced that NERVO was teaming up with Aussie pop princess, Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters‘ very own Jake Shears for an amazing collaboration. A few months later, Nile Rodgers was added to the mix, resulting in an epic disco track.
“The Other Boys” has grown on me. Its five minute length is reminiscent of disco past, when songs had the extended charm to it. The hypnotic alerts is a signal to the dance floor, where Shears openly expresses the heartache he feels. He is soon joined by Minogue who shares the longing for other boys that seem to escape her clutches. The tale of love not being reciprocated is as old as time, and it’s one that I often find myself sharing. Perhaps the lyrical content and the nature of the track is why it’s one of my favorites at the moment.
The modern take on disco seems to fit NERVO’s style, transitioning from their signature big room into disco heaven. With Rodgers adding his unmistakable flare, the song is overwhelmingly good and is a fit in the nu-disco world we live in.
“The Other Boys” is available now on NERVO’s debut album, Collateral! The album includes collaborations with Nicky Romero, Jay Park, and many more talented artists.
