Track of the Day: Dannii Minogue & Reece Robertson – “Summer of Love”
I’ve had Dannii Minogue on my Google News Alerts for like the past year or two, anxiously waiting for new music. After checking my inbox and screaming for a minute or two, I opened up a news link that revealed Minogue’s latest release. She’s teased fans on Twitter with cryptic tweets, occasionally sending out “#pressplay” with fans guessing what it meant. I deduced the other day that she was planning on releasing something new, given that her Mardi Gras performance is next week and the frequent usage of “#pressplay” popping up on her timeline. Now that I know my guess was right, Minogue is making a return to the dance floor with one of the most spectacular house tracks, declaring it “the summer of love.”
The queen of clubs has taken her time, wanting to get the perfect track before it reaching public ears. Since 2013’s release of “‘Cos You’re Beautiful” on the singer’s last compilation album, it’s been a relatively quiet scene. Now that Dannii is celebrating 25 years of being in the music industry, the newest track sees the dance diva join forces with British rapper, Reece Robertson for an epic deep house track. The intro has Minogue faintly repeating its namesake title with Reece repeating “we don’t need nobody.” Initially wary of a rapper’s presence on any Minogue track, it’s actually very fitting considering the lyrics. Dannii then takes her rightful place ensuring dance music remains a fun environment, while making the perfect tune for a late night out.
#Disco25 — Minogue’s term for having been in the music industry for twenty-five years — is off to a great start. Hopefully this latest dance anthem signals an album in the near future. Fingers crossed and disco balls ready for Dannii Minogue’s ultimate return to dance music where she will no doubt reign supreme.
