TOTD: The Knocks “Trouble” feat. Absofacto

Every artist has a story about a piece they’ve written that never seems to feel completed. Few songs are finished right from the get-go, but some songs require more reworking than others. Today’s Track of the Day by The Knocks feat. Absofacto has a similar story. The first single off of their new Testify EP is “Trouble,” and we have no trouble listening to this one on repeat.

“We originally wrote “Trouble” with Abso in NYC at our studio as a slow, piano ballad, at 90 BPM. The idea was to write something that felt melancholy and classic. After we laid down the original idea, he left and we started experimenting with it — treating it like a sample — totally chopping it up and flipping it.  This is the same way we approach some of our earlier songs like “Dancing With The DJ” and “Make it Better” so it was cool to go back to that formula while making a sound that was new and fresh.” – The Knocks

“Trouble” is a catchy tune that begins with a relatable vocal track mapping out a problem many of us have experienced. While the lyrics are somewhat melancholy, as originally thought, the tune and beat behind these lyrics make the song incredibly danceable. The Knocks have an uncanny ability to create tunes that anyone can groove to. Want to dance to more of The Knocks? Catch them on tour, dates below.
