As a Connecticut local and all over funk lover, Kung Fu consistently reaches the epitome of booty-shakin’, stand up, quality funk – the kind that can give you goosebumps all the way down to your funky bones. The perfect combination of horns, keys, bass, drums and guitar reach deep inside your soul and draw out something magical – the perfect dog-walkin’ harmony that brings all movers and groovers to a whole new level of funk.
Since their debut album in 2001, the truly, absolutely professional dream team, consisting of Tim Palmieri (guitar), Rob Somerville (tenor sax), Todd Stoops (keyboards), David Livolsi (bass guitar), and Adrian Tramontano (drums/percussion) have transcended standard funk fusion and reached a whole new level. With their ability to appease all genres, their music extends far beyond the norm. Their fanbase is a generous mix of aging hippies, new-age 20-somethings who know what’s good for them, and young kiddos just learning the true meaning of funk.
This magical quartet has made fusion music cool again and has attracted some of the biggest names in music. The praise doesn’t end when the name “Kung Fu” is brought up in conversation. Even Marc Brownstein of The Disco Biscuits told me, “I think they are all spectacular musicians and great people who deserve all of the attention they are gathering.”
If you have yet to dip your toes into the sweet, sweet pool of funk fusion, join the boogie masters at Aura Music & Arts Festival 6:00-7:30 Sunday, March 8th on the Porch Stage for some quality Sunday church.
