Track Of The Day: Kylie Minogue – “Step Back In Time (Steve Anderson DMC Mix)”
Kylie Minogue may be one of my favorite singers in the world, and it’s for good reason. She makes pop music entertaining, and during 1990, she came out with a dance-pop album full of memorable tracks. From Rhythm of Love, lead single “Better the Devil You Know” gave birth to a sex siren and the image followed for many years. The second single from the pop star’s album is one of my favorite tracks, probably because it pays tribute to the days when disco reigned champion. “Remember the old days / remember the O’Jays” Minogue reminiscences throughout the disco-inspired track.
On a promotional 12″ for “Step Back In Time”, the song was remixed by Minogue’s long-time collaborator Steve Anderson. In my opinion, it is one of her best remixes to come out of the vaults and now it will officially be released next year when her first four albums are re-released with bonus content. The intro is delicate, gradually introducing what makes it a disco song. Filled with references from the era, “Blame It On The Boogie”, the O’Jays’ “Love Train”, Minogue made disco a staple in her discography. The end concludes with Kylie urging you to step back in time when all else fails.
