Envision Festival Track Of The Day: Ott – “Mr. Balloon Hands”
In 2012 Ott, Chris Barker, Naked Nick, and Matt White begain performing live renditions of tracks off of Ott’s first three albums (blumenkraft, skylon, and Mir). Called “Ott & the All Seeing I”, this live ensemble has brought a spatially tangible dynamic to Ott’s originally one man show.
I was lucky enough to catch their first show in NYC back in 2012, and hadn’t seen them again until this past summer. I realized that they had evolved beyond my wildest imagination. Playing down the dusk at a block party outside of Cervantes’ Masterpiece in Denver, with a lightrail periodically whizzing through vapor rising from the stage, “Ott & the All Seeing I” let loose a raw beauty entangled within each note.
I’m not sure how I missed it, but in September of 2013 Ott released an EP entitled Baby Robot. “Mr Balloon Hands” starts off upbeat, setting us up for quite a psychedelic journey. As the song comes up, it slowly introduces sounds that warp dimensional awareness, while volume manipulation seems to create a sense of movement. The other song on the EP, “Baby Robot”, is a melodic wave that rushes over the eardrums and spreads into the psyche. One needs only closed eyes to be transported, guided by the most curious of mermaids to a sacred aquatic playground.
This EP gives us but a taste of what Ott holds in store for us in the future. This New Years Eve he will be performing at the Madison Theater in Covington, Kentucky. Soon after, Ott will be vibrating the sand beneath our feet, as he is featured on the initial lineup announcement for Envision Festival 2015. We hope you’ll join us, February 26th- March 1st, for some sonic serenity in Uvita, Costa Rica.
