Track of the Day: Opiuo – “Quack Fat” (Spoonbill Remix)
Earlier this year Opiuo released his album, Meraki, which has continued to be one of my favorite releases of 2014. This album delivered the squishy, mushy, drippy and entirely unique sounds that make Opiuo the force that he is.
My most-played track on Merak is “Quack Fat”. This upbeat, highly danceable track is reminds me of Opiou’s standout tracks from Slurp n Giggle with it’s syncopated rhythms and squishy synths, but it definitely has a fresh twist and – perhaps unbelievably – an even more high energy vibe.
Just a few days ago, Opiuo released a compilation of remixes from the Meraki album. This collection features the work of Russ Liquid, KOAN Sound, Mr. Bill and John Clayton, just to name a few.
Of course I gravitated to the “Quack Fat” remix first. This tight track is remixed by fellow Aussie friend Spoonbill.
Spoonbill‘s remix of “Quack Fat” takes the fast-paced song and slows it right on down, making the swinging syncopated rhythms sassy and head-bob worthy. He infuses it with more organic, instrumental noises and remakes it into an entirely new, entirely lovable track. The mushy goodness of Opiuo still runs strong, but it speaks Spoonbills language too.
