YouTube Track of the Week – Tessa Violet “Crush”
YouTube is a sensation all in itself. The idea and the concept were revolutionary when it was first released. More recently, the openness of YouTube and the ability for anyone to create a persona on their own channel has grown exponentially. YouTube is no longer just a media outlet but a social media outlet as well. YouTube celebrities are all their own, and with the popularity of the outlet, they are just as famous as television celebrities. The website is also an enormous place for music. So, when a YouTube-famous person starts releasing music, one can imagine the ease at which their popularity can grow. Tessa Violet is the perfect example of this. This week’s Track of the Week is her latest single “Crush.”
Born in the Midwest and bouncing all over the world since then, Tessa Violet has been making YouTube videos since 2006 and music since 2016. She has over 1 million followers as a vlogger and is now working on a successful music career. Her lyrics are honest and relatable, and her music ranges from singer/songwriter to full-on pop music. “Crush” is somewhere in between. The track tells a story in which we all can relate. She’s thinking of someone fondly and often distracted. Violet describes social media stalking and the “all shades of pink” we turn when we run into that significant other. The chorus is an earworm that will stay with the listener from breakfast to bedtime. The tune itself is reminiscent of Louis the Child or Whethan, but that’s definitely not a bad thing. The music video for the track is undeniably cute and funny. Tessa Violet already knows her audience and is doing something right. Check out the video for “Crush” at the top of the page.
