The Ultimate Bowie Tribute: Stratosphere All Stars with Turbo Suit 1/28/16
If you’ve been looking for that perfectly assembled team of modern musicians paying a very special tribute to the great David Bowie, Live for Live Music has heard your call. This Thursday at 8pm, the morphing super-group Stratosphere All-Stars will be joined by Turbo Suit at the Highline Ballroom in NYC for a special Bowie-centric event. This is the first of a short three night run; you won’t want to miss this unique combination of musicians play a one of a kind performance devoted to the one and only, David Bowie. Purchase tickets here now.
Featuring David Murphy (formerly of STS9) on bass, Steve Molitz (Particle) on keys, and Marcus Rezak (Digital Tape Machine) on guitar, the group will also be joined by Jeremy Salken of Big Gigantic on drums for this run. The all-star ensemble sold out their first-ever show at Brooklyn Bowl last March, and has gone on to play runs in Colorado and the Southeast. Their late-night set at this year’s Catskill Chill on Saturday night showcased the band’s ability to take songs on an improvisational exploration of funk and dance music, as singer Hayley Jane provided incredible vocals on a cover of David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” This band is taking things to a whole other level.
Sensible Reason favorite Turbo Suit, comprised of David Embry on production and vocals, Nicholas Gerlach on tenor sax and EWI, and Jeff Peterson on drums will be supporting Stratosphere. This livetronica trio has been making a name for themselves with their distinctive mix of infectious beats with sensual saxophone melodies as well as frequent sit-ins with Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s McGee. Expect some interesting sit-ins for this three night run. Make sure you arrive early to catch their set, these Indianapolis boys don’t come around NYC too often.
