Vallis Alps Returns With Moving New Single “So Settled”
Vallis Alps, the haunting brainchild of duo David Ansari and Parissa Tosif, is a unique take on indie electronic music. The band’s sound is an interesting juxtaposition of Parissa’s angelic vocals and David’s hard-hitting production. At the beginning of their career, the two were an unexpected success when they released their debut EP. At the time, they largely worked an ocean away from one another. David and Parissa joined forces in Syndey and Vallis Alps released their second hugely successful EP and became a smash hit down under. The two toured the world this year, spreading their signature sound and gathering a cult-like following. Just this past week, David and Parissa once again said goodbye to one another as David moved back to the states. However, David’s move does not mean the end of Vallis Alps. The duo just released another single, “So Settled,“ and we can’t get enough.
“So Settled,” like each Vallis Alps track, carries a sound totally different from their previously released track. It is impossible to predict what Vallis Alps will create, and we were not expecting a track like this. The song immediately opens with a quick and upbeat rhythm, and Parissa’s voice smoothly enters with poetic words. An infectious melody chimes in between lyrics as the beat constantly pushes forward. The track moves swiftly and the listener must continue to keep up as Parissa haunts. “So Settled” reminds one of a track in a movie montage, where the events on the screen move swiftly as the audience gets a brief glimpse into how fast time can move. Yet, the lyrics of the song contradict its movement as Parissa says “Time, you are a little bit slow…”
While “So Settled” has an average track time of 3 minutes, the song ends just as abruptly as it began as the rhythm settles in a heartbeat, leaving the listener begging for more. The differences in vision between David and Parissa provide Vallis Alps with a world of opportunity. These two are unpredictable, yet never disappoint. We can’t wait to see what else these two will have in store with their creative long distance relationship.
