Vancouver’s Handsome Tiger Unveils Sumptuous Intertwined EP
This past year at Shambhala we had the good fortune of unwittingly stumbling upon one Vancouver’s silkiest beatsmiths, Handsome Tiger. His diverse and expertly crafted set enraptured the entire crowd at The Grove Stage and set us down a deep dive of his impressive catalog. With a style that is both gritty and cinematic, Handsome Tiger is a cunning purveyor of bass who is adept at binding various sonic styles. Now the crafty Canadian has made a major statement with the release of his new Intertwined EP.
The 4-track project is a smoldering showcase of Handsome Tiger’s gripping production. Finding purchase in a nexus between genres like dubstep, dancehall, hip-hop, future bass and downtempo, Handsome Tiger is distinguishing himself as one of the freshest talents hailing from north of the border. Bold yet sophisticated, cutting-edge while still inspiring old-school elements, Intertwined is the perfect panacea for worldly bass enthusiasts.
The EP swells to life with the title track “INTERTWINED,” a sexy hip-hop-infused tune that sets a vitalic tone right out the gates. A pulsating percussive groove creates an infectious foundation for hypnotic vocals and playful synths to culminate in a wildly addictive opening salvo sure to set any dance floor alight.
The Tiger continues to spellbind with “REVIVE” an evocative, slowed-down number that incorporates dance-hall and reggae vibes along with tribal hand drums in a debonair fashion. “BROKEN GLASS” piques our interest with its far east overtones, devilish rolling hi-hats and haunting chopped & screwed vocals.
The EP comes to a conclusion with arguably Handsome Tiger’s most meticulous work. “CLOSE TO ME” is a pulsating closing track that truly portrays Handsome Tiger’s ability to craft palatial soundscapes and intricately woven arrangements. Enigmatic synth-worth and kaleidoscopic percussion fold and layer upon one another to solidify this last track as a truly sumptuous piece of production.
Keep your eyes on this rising star as he continues to turn heads in the industry with more performances across North America and seminal music festivals like Shambhala and Bass Coast.
