Festival season is without a doubt the most glorious time of year for music lovers. Whether you are a veteran making your way to your fifth or sixth year of your favorite weekend-long get down, or perhaps you’re about to pop your festival cherry. Either way, that time of year is sneaking up faster and faster – lineups are being announced left and right for some of the biggest and best long-standing festies out there such as Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Summer Camp and more. But amongst all of the hype, there is one event in particular that is getting some extra special attention.
In the heart of Florida from March 4-6, there is going to be some certifiably insane music madness ensuing at Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival. A quaint, peaceful getaway in nature with lush vegetation is going to turn into some serious stomping grounds for a weekend of tunes, activities, interactions and sheer bliss in an outdoor wonderland. This is why Okeechobee is going to outshine the rest:
1.PoWow! Mashups/Soundslinger LLC – from everything we know about Soundslinger so far, these guys know how to throw a party and who to invite. From superstar collabs and once-in-a-lifetime headliner mashups, Soundslinger has an extensive background in composing unique musical experiences at one of the most reputable festivals out there both in longevity and diversity, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (which will be hosting its 15th anniversary in 2016). Soundslinger has some downright delectable mashups planned for OMF 2016, including R&B idol Miguel on vocals paired up with frontman of Arcade Fire, Win Butler. Supporting artists joining the duo on stage includes John Oates of Hall & Oates, The Meters’ George Peter, jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, DJ Chris Karns, and finally, of Soulive, Neal Evans & Eric Krasno. And that’s not even the end of it – more special guests will be announced as well as surprise guest additions that will remain a mystery until they hit the stage.
2. Venue – so there are some outstanding venues in the festival world, from the Spanish-moss draped woodland that makes up The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park to the long stretches of sandy beach and tropical beauty at Envision in Costa Rica. But Okeechobee is certainly going to give other venues a run for their money. Held in the heart of Florida and immersed entirely in lush nature and flourishing vegetation right upon the gorgeous Lake Okeechobee, patrons will be boogying all up in Mother Nature for nearly 4 days straight across 5 diverse stages. You never know, you might end up finding yourself amidst all that enlightenment. The stages and villages are sure to be some of the most impressive parts of the festival visually, with a ChobeeWobee village for yoga, art, music and more, and a Jungle 51 stage featuring some of the best techno and house artists performing in a crash-landed spacecraft to send festival-goers directly to the stars.
3. Lineup – this one is pretty self-explanatory — there truly is something for everyone to love at OMF 2016. Mumford & Sons. Bassnectar. Skrillex. Kendrick. Robert Plant. Odesza. You get the point. Check out the full lineup here.
4. Inaugural Year – in today’s day and age it isn’t very common to be able to experience a festival before it becomes popular or overrun with crowds, and if you’ve ever been to a long-standing festival for its very first year, you know that amazing feeling of being a part of something from the very start and in some cases, every year after. If you don’t know that feeling, you’re in luck, because this is just the beginning of Okeechobee, and you can be among the very first people (and animals) to give meaning to the saying “enter the portal”.
5. All Day/All Night Jams – no one likes to stop the party early due to noise ordinances and city regulations – so Okeechobee is keeping the party rolling with specified stages that will alternate performances that go on all day, all night. Jungle 51 keeps the disco going from dusk-till-dawn, and Aquachobee Beachwill feature a “diverse medley of downtempo, uptempo, live bands and electronic goodies” from the likes of Hermitude, Twiddle, Manic Focus and more.
There are too many reasons to mention as to why Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival is going to be the “it” festival of 2016, but the ultimate decision rests in your hands. Will you be entering the portal come March? Find your tickets via Okeechobee’s site, and stay updated with festival info via Twitterand Facebook.
