The X Games Are Coming To Austin Texas, Ready to Showcase the World’s Best In Action, Sports, & Music!
In less than two months ESPN will present the inaugural Summer X Games in Austin, Texas. This year’s X Games will span June 5-8th, and will host more than 200 athletes at Circuit of the Americas. COTA is the ideal venue for an event of this size and caliber, boasting a 1,500 acre complex. The lengthy 3.4 mile track will hold the 2 main locations for the many different X Games disciplines, and should be more than enough space for the thousands of guests that will attend this year. In total there will be 17 BMX, Skate, Moto X, RallyCross and Stadium Super Trucks events. It’s exciting to have an event of this magnitude in our backyard here in Austin, and it seems as if the event coordinators are just as excited as we are:
“We are incredibly excited to partner with the Circuit of the Americas to bring the X Games to Austin in June. We believe that Bobby Epstein, his team and the fantastic COTA facility provide a unique opportunity to grow the X Games in a new region of the country and in a city that has a proven track record of embracing big events. Throughout the site selection process we were very fortunate to have great interest from Chicago, Charlotte and Detroit. Ultimately, the combination of resources, support and fit brought us to Austin and we couldn’t be happier.” – Scott Guglielmino, Sr. Vice President, ESPN/X Games

Beginning on Thursday June 5th, Circuit of the Americas will be jam packed and full of action for the entire four days of the games. With this being a multi-day event, it’s important to plan your trip to get the most out of every second. The event schedule is pretty tight, so be sure to utilize the high-tech customizable schedule here.
The X Games are shaping up to be more of an actual festival this year, instead of strictly sports as we’ve seen in the past. There will be multiple stages for music, go-kart racing courses, ziplines, a major league gaming setup, a huge sports bar with big screens, dodgeball, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, corn hole, washers, and all kinds of other activities. There will also be a Silent Disco, an EDM dance tent, and even an X Games Museum. The artist lineup is stellar, with Kayne West headlining, along with the Flaming Lips, Pretty Lights, Slightly Stoopid, Gary Clark Jr., Mac Miller, Bad Religion, Dillon Francis, Mayer Hawthorne, Wavves, Cash Cash, FMLYBND and Candyland. Headlining performances will take place at the awesome Austin 360 Amphitheater, while other performances will take place at one of the other stages or EDM tent.
On top of all of this, there will also be a battle of the bands event this year, which is a first for the X Games! The X Games: Battle of the Bands competition will feature the top eight bands from an online band-submitted and fan-voted competition performing on stage during X Games Austin for a $25,000 prize. Those eight bands with the highest online vote totals will then each perform a 25-minute set at X Games Austin and fans will vote for their favorites. The two bands with the highest vote totals will then perform head-to-head on June 8 where a winner will be named based on fan voting. Scott Guglielmino, Sr. Vice President of programming for the X Games/ESPN had this to say in regards to the unique growth of the games:
“X Games Austin 2014 will be a four-day sports, music, and lifestyle festival. The best athletes, competing at the highest levels remain the core of X Games. But we’re incredibly excited about being able to create a full-scale festival around that, which celebrates some of the other elements of the X Games lifestyle – music, friends, family, food and fun.”
