Zoogma and DrFameus NYC Rocks Off Boat Cruise
The DrFameus Zoogma tour just ended. With an awesome line up, these two acts tore it up, up and down the east coast before taking a break for a fest before festival season. In NYC they played on the Rocks Off Boat Cruise, a 3-hour tour– no this is not Gilligan’s island– around the island of Manhattan. With breathtaking views of the NYC skyline, the Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty, this cruise really is a magical place to see a show. Both the Dr and Zoogma brought the heat all night, playing sets that were fun and danceable all the way though.
The last time I saw Zoogma was at their late night set at Aura Music Festival, which was super high-energy and chock full of samples. This set instead showcased the other side of Zoogma– very tight and jammy through and through. Playing favorites of mine throughout the night, Zoogma hit a home run in terms of set list. My only complaint is about the boat’s sound system which, for the space, was the right size but one of the speakers was blown and took away from what I could tell was a really great set. Something that pleasantly surprised me, however, was when I stepped outside onto the deck of the boat and found that there were speakers outside and you could hear all the music that was going on downstairs perfectly.
DrFameus was also a lot of fun. Every time I see Allen play the drums, it amazes me what an awesome drummer he really is. With nonstop breaks and beats, Allen kept everyone going strong right up until the boat docked. I always struggle to describe Allen’s playing in an eloquent manner, but I have found a solution to that problem. Below is a video of Allen tearing it up on the boat cruise.
